Do I need an attorney to file for bankruptcy?
You do not need to use an attorney to file for Chapter
7 or Chapter 13. Any one of the kits found on
this site will help you file your petition pro se.
If you choose a bankruptcy petition preparer to help
you with your documents you will need to have an understanding
of the process and we recommend starting with a free
manual, Bankruptcy BASICS
A document preparer is well worth the cost but there
are some things only you or an attorney can decide,
such as which chapter to file and what exemptions to
choose to protect your assets. As per congress
only you or an attorney can make these choices.
